Artil is a project that builds a bridge into the professional world for young artists through a residency program including mentorship, production support, and interdisciplinary workshops. This year, for the first time, the project takes place across Austria, Poland, and Ukraine. In such a frame, the initial (post) educational role of the project enhances itself by an intercultural format that invites exchange, collaboration and integration.
The young artists will get a chance to have two weeks of educational residencies with field experts in Linz and Lublin and continuing their creative journey at a four weeks residency in Ukraine. The results of the process will be presented to a broad audience through a tour across the three countries. Choreographers will present their work in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Katowice, Lublin, Linz, Vienna at such locations as Stage 6 at the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Center, Art Area DK Kharkiv, Centre for Culture Lublin and Anton Bruckner Private University among others.
Running under the motto “Bodies in motion – performing the invisible” the project is part of the bilateral Cultural Exchange Year between Austria and Ukraine. The international leadership team of the program – Rose Breuss (AT), Aleksander Manshylin (UA), Maria Shurkhal (AT/UA), Rryszard Kalinowski and Jacek Łumiński (POL) – strive for creating an environment that allows exchange and collaboration between young artists. The challenging and fairly durable frame of the programme encourages high engagement of each participant and creates a feeling of community and belonging. In the future, the project aims to continue its existence through professional presence of the participants and strong cooperative bounds between the artists of the three different countries.
Artil project will last for almost 3 months, involving over 50 different professionals from Austria, Poland, and Ukraine. The opportunity to create a short work will be given to 7 choreographers who will work with 16 dancers, a dramaturg, set, costume, and light designers. Further on the works will be presented across 3 countries, in 10 different cities, for multiple audience of professionals and dance lovers. The departure station of the program will be Anton Bruckner University Linz, where young choreographers will start polishing their artistic concepts already from the 15th of July on.
Reaching such an extent of the project was made possible by support from inspired individuals as well as national and international organisations as Anton Bruckner Private University, Rose Breuss, Verein zur Förderung des zeitgenössischen Tanzes, Pop Up Collective, Bundeskanzleramt der Republik Österreich, Ulf Hausbrandt, Kulturforum Kiew, Lublin Dance Theatre, Ukrainian Culture Foundation among others.
